Friday night fundamentals class. A lot of listening and watching breakdowns of moves and theory from the coach.
Couple of key things I learned and am thinking about:
- Turning the leg to loosen/dismantle a de la riva hook. simple point and shift direction change.
- when stuck in de la riva, doing the turn and butt blast/slide down pass thing down the leg of the hook after turning around (must keep contact the entire time, must avoid losing contact. Melt into them. Constantly apply pressure.
- but if someone breaks YOUR de la riva by turning a 180, immediately get your other leg in between theirs and create double hooks and reach up to grab them.
- Reminder to keep my shoulders past their waist/hip line when breaking posture to get out of closed guard.
